# How to Stop Mirroring a Leader and Handle Open Positions

> Unfollow a Mirror Leader in Mirrorpip to halt trade copying. Learn why open positions stay active after you stop and how to close them.

You can stop mirroring any Mirror Leader at any time directly from the Mirrorpip app. Once you stop, no new trades from that leader will be copied into your exchange account.

  Stopping mirroring does **not** automatically close your existing open positions. Any positions already opened through that leader remain open on your exchange until you close them manually or the market triggers your exit. See [Manage positions](/guides/manage-positions) for how to close them.

## How to stop mirroring a leader

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to your active leaders">
    In the Mirrorpip app, navigate to your **Profile** or **My Leaders** screen, which lists all the Mirror Leaders you are currently following.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the leader to unfollow">
    Tap the Mirror Leader you want to stop mirroring.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap Stop Mirroring">
    Tap the **Stop Mirroring** or **Unfollow** button on the leader's detail screen.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm your decision">
    A confirmation prompt will appear, reminding you that open positions will not be closed automatically. Tap **Confirm** to proceed.

After confirming, Mirrorpip immediately stops monitoring and copying that leader's trades. No new trades will be placed.

## Managing open positions after stopping

Once you stop mirroring, go to [Manage positions](/guides/manage-positions) and review your open trades. Decide whether to:

* **Hold** them and close manually when you're ready
* **Close them immediately** from the Positions screen

<Tip>
  If a Mirror Leader is currently in a drawdown and you're concerned about further losses, close your open positions from that leader before — or immediately after — stopping mirroring.

## Restarting mirroring

You can start following a leader again at any time. Navigate to the Mirror Leaders list, find the leader, and tap **Mirror** to restart. Only trades placed after you restart will be copied — past trades are not retroactively replicated.
